VCDT Signs Exclusive Partnership with National Academy of Dance of Italy
October 8, 2011
The Directors of VCDT are excited to announce the signing of a strategic partnership between the company and The National Academy of Dance (Accademia Nazionale di Danza) of Italy, to develop the dance programs and diplomas offered by that esteemed institution in Canada.
Founded in 1940, innumerable international dancers, teachers and choreographers have worked at the Academy, such as Kurt Jooss, Jean Cebron, Anton Dolin, Birgit Cullberg, Leonide Massine, Maurice Bejart, Micha van Hoecke, just to name a few. The current Artistic Director Margherita Parrilla, former prima ballerina at the Opera House in Rome, was appointed in October 1996 and in 2006 the great German choreographer Pina Bausch became Honorary Director.
The Directors of VCDT have been mandated to develop all instructional, programming and facility opportunities for the Academy in Canada, and are currently establishing new partnerships and channels for the future launch of the first ever Canadian branch of the Academy, for the 2011-2012 academic year.
